Grief and bereavement in palliative care: Research that makes a difference

Grief and bereavement care is a vital component of palliative care. This presentation will provide an overview of some of the latest research on grief and bereavement in palliative care.

Presented by Ass Prof Lauren Breen
Lauren’s program of applied research focuses broadly on end-of-life care and grief and loss issues, and includes research on chronic disease management, communicating the diagnosis of a serious/terminal illness, the impact of caregiving on bereavement, preparations for bereavement, psychotherapies for prolonged grief disorder, interventions of grieving children and families, building the community’s capacity to support grieving people, social and cultural norms of grief, and the interface between evidence-based practice and practice-based evidence.

Improving support and education for patients diagnosed with cancer and their carers

This presentation will provide an overview of A/Prof Halkett’s current research focusing on improving support and education provided to patient diagnosed with cancer and their carers

Presented by Ass Prof Georgia Halkett
Georgia’s program of research focuses on cancer patient’s psychosocial and information needs, communication between health professionals and cancer patients and research in radiation therapy. She is also conducting research addressing the needs of carers of patients diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Tailored education to meet specific requirements is available as we continue to improve and develop our programs to meet the growing demand for palliative and supportive care education.
